This year, from October 1st – 5th, the Alliant Energy Center, in Madison Wisconsin, will play host to the 2013 World Dairy Expo. This five day event, often dubbed the Center of the Dairy Universe, is an exciting opportunity for those in the dairy industry to see and learn about the finest in dairy genetics and emerging technologies that are likely to make a big impact on dairy business world-wide.
Attendees to the world renowned 2013 World Dairy Expo will have the opportunity to see various dairy cattle shows, participate in seminars and tours, and enter some exciting contests. Each year, thousands of individuals from all factions of the dairy industry attend this event. This year's World Dairy Expo is gearing up to be one of the most exciting years in the event's history. Let’s take a look at what’s happening this time around:
Dairy Cattle Show
The Dairy Cattle Show, at the World Dairy Expo, is one of the most prestigious cattle shows in the world. In 2012, the Dairy Cattle Show attracted 1,234 ranchers who showed off a total of 2,384 head of cattle. The Expo Contests
In addition to the Dairy Cattle Show, there will be a number of other contests taking place at the 2013 World Dairy Show in Wisconsin.
On Tuesday, October 1st, The Central National Dairy Cattle Judging, Dairy Products Judging, Forage Management Cup and Showmanship Competition will be held as part of the FFA contests in this year's expo. For youth aged 9-21, there will be the World Dairy Expo Youth Showmanship Contest. This event will take place as part of the World Dairy Expo, in the Coliseum, on October 4th 2013. This contest features three levels of participants: Juniors, Intermediates, and Seniors. For more information on the event, see the Youth Showmanship Contest rules and regulations.
The World Dairy Expo also features the Championship Dairy Product Contest. This is a unique contest which allows entries from all types of dairy products including cheese, butter, ice cream, cottage cheese, sour cream, and the like. The winner of this prestigious award is granted the opportunity to add the World Dairy Expo's stamp of approval to all of their products by featuring a "best of the best" sticker on all of their products for an entire year.

2013 World Dairy Expo Seminars
A large focus of the World Dairy expo is learning. The event organizers invite all of their participants and attendees to gather for the purposes of networking and education. This year's seminars, aimed at education, will include "Dairy Sustainability: Why It's Important for You and Your Operation", "Opportunities and Challenges in the Use of Automated Calf Feeders", "Best Management of Transition Cows", plus many others.
