Memorial Union Events at the University of Wisconsin

Welcome to Madison Wisconsin, a beautiful city nestled picturesquely between the four lakes of the Yahara River.  Our city, which makes up the heart of Dane County, is the Wisconsin State Capital, and the proud home of the University of Wisconsin.  Founded the same year that Wisconsin achieved statehood in 1848, the University of Wisconsin was the first public university established in Wisconsin, and today UW remains the largest public post-secondary institution in the State.

Recognized time and again for its commitment to learning and excellence, UW is categorized as a Research University thanks to an expenditure of more that $1 billion annually on research.  In 2008, the University of Wisconsin's research and development expenditure was the third highest in the United States.  Each year, thousands of students from across Wisconsin and the North Eastern United States vie for a chance to learn at this prestigious University.  With more than 40,000 students attending UW each year, the University has become a huge force within Madison and has had an immense impact on our city's growth and culture.

Chief among the many ways that the University of Wisconsin has affected Madison and the culture of our city is Memorial Union.
