Every year during the holiday season, Madison plays host to a wide variety of festive events that brighten up the city and make it buzz with excitement and holiday cheer. Whether you’re a local or someone visiting from afar, we want you to experience the best of Madison this holiday season. To help you along your way, we’ve put together a list of some of the top holiday events occurring this December 2013.
Madison Symphony Christmas Celebration
The Madison Symphony Christmas is celebrating its 20th edition this year by hosting three performances between the dates of December 6th – 8th at the Overture Center for the Arts.
Those who have attended the concert before know that it is a must-see event! The fun begins right when you enter the lobby. From start to finish, you’ll hear your favorite carols echoing throughout the concert hall as your true holiday spirit comes to life. As the show progresses, you’ll have the pleasure of listening to some of Madison’s best musicians led by the affable conductor, John DeMain. Some of the notable groups performing include the Madison Symphony Chorus directed by Beverly Taylor, the Madison Youth Choirs directed by Michael Ross and the Mt. Zion Gospel Choir directed by Leotha Stanley. If you’re not already familiar with these groups, you’ll love them by the end of the show especially as they all come together in the show’s signature finish: a long standing tradition of a heart-warming sing-along that gets everyone involved!
Over the years, the Madison Symphony Christmas Celebration has received rave reviews from the local press:
“The title role [Prima Donna], fittingly, is a tour de force and it is impossible to imagine it better performed by Melody Moore.” – Marion Lignana Rosenberd, The Classical Review
“You have to hand it to John DeMain…he sure knows how to ‘keep Christmas well’ as Charles Dickens said” – Wisconsin State Journal
Melody Moore and Nathan Stark have been recent mainstays on stage as lead performers of Soprano and Bass. They will be donning their Christmas hats with great pride this year as they enjoy the magic of performing in the concert after months of hard work.
